Andy Hilk sent us a link to an article in the NapervilleSun which states that:
The owner of a Naperville pancake house destroyed in an explosion more than three years ago admitted in court Tuesday he set it on fire.
Peter H. Ladias, 72, of Palos Hills pleaded guilty to arson for the Oct. 29, 2008, fire at GiGi’s Restaurant near 111th Street and Route 59 in Naperville. Will County Judge Daniel Rozak set a May 24 sentencing hearing.
Ladias faces as many as seven years in prison.
Shortly after the fire, police said they found traces of gas in the ruins of the restaurant. But it took nearly two years for prosecutors to file charges against Ladias
Louis Pagonis, the other man hurt in the explosion, also sued Ladias in 2009. He said in his suit Ladias invited him to the restaurant at 10:53 p.m. the day of the explosion. He said he parked his car behind the building and opened the back door just as the eatery blew up.

Andy Hilk found this article in the Plainfield Patch about an accident that occurred while firefighters and police were already working an accident scene on I55 near US 30 in Plainfield.
A distracted driver who failed to see the flashing lights of four emergency vehicles on Interstate 55 sideswiped a Plainfield Fire Protection Districtfire engine Wednesday night.
Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton called it a “miracle” that the driver did not end up injuring any firefighters, ambulance personnel or other people at the scene, just north of U.S. 30.
The ambulance was parked in front of the fire engine, and two Illinois State Police cars were parked behind it, Stratton said. Orange cones were set up behind the police cars, he said.
The driver of the second car knocked over the cones but avoided hitting the two police cars before sideswiping the fire engine and coming to a stop, Stratton said. That he did not strike the ambulance, push the fire engine into the ambulance or hit any of the people on the scene was just luck, he said.
A spokesman for Illinois State Police District 5 said the driver of the second car, whose name was not available Wednesday night, offered no explanation other than he was “distracted.”
He was ticketed under Scott’s Law, which increases the penalties for drivers who fail to yield to emergency vehicles or cause accidents at roadside emergency scenes. Under that law, he could be fined up to $10,000 and could potentially have his license suspended.

The Naperville Fire Department (MABAS Division 16) has made a fleet and manning change. The 1997 E-ONE Cyclone for Squad 8 has been taken out of service and stripped of its equipment. It’s current disposition is most likely to be sold. The Spartan/Crimson engine from Station 1 has been moved to Station 8 and will be the new Squad 8 with most of the vehicle extrication gear assigned to the squad. The balance of the squad’s equipment has been moved to the technical rescue truck (TRT) and the dive equipment is on the water rescue truck (WRT).
Naperville will be down one suppression company on the street. There will be no layoffs, but three vacant positions for FF/PM will not be filled
Thanks to Lieutenant Andy Hilk for updating us.
