This from Wayne Stuart for #TBT:
The Gary Fire Department operated this 1964 Maxim S Model pumper. It carried serial number 2413. It had a 1,000-GPM pump and a 300-gallon tank. It was originally assigned to Engine Company 9, and later to Engine Company 5.

Whiting, Hammond, East Chicago, Gary, Griffith, South Bend, Lafayette, Terre Haute, Indianapolis among others all had Maxims. Not to mention, if you bought a Mack with a steel ladder, it was a Maxim aerial. Indy had one of the largest fleets outside New England. The salesman would drive the highway and stop everywhere along the way.

I wonder if any made it up here in SE Wisconsin.
There were more PIRSCH apparatus around here that one could count.

I recall South Bend as being heavy into Maxim apparatus in the 60’s and 70’s, both CF and CC models. While Maxim was very popular in Indiana, I don’t know of too many Chicago suburbs that had them other than Westchester.

Quite a few Maxims were sold in Indiana.

A rare treat to see MAXIM.
Built the same year I was.
