Rob that is interesting that Lincolnwood is already planning to replace their current rear mounted Tower Ladder with a Mid Mounted version a few years down the road. I know that Skokie and Evanston have got mid mounted Tower Ladders on order.
There is something to be said for Mid Mounted Tower Ladders over rear mounted ones such as a lower over head clearance for the Aerial Ladder.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Chicago purchase a mid mounted Tower Ladder or two specifically for the Southeast side of Chicago and other areas that have low railroad via duct overpasses such as the in the former Tower Ladder 34 district. Yes I realize that Truck 16 is now a Tower Ladder since they took the Tower Ladder from Truck 34 a few years ago.
It is even questionable that they took the Tower Ladder from Truck 34 due to to collisions with some overhead viaduct posts which had not been a problem until the last 5 or 6 years as Truck 34 was running as a Tower Ladder since 1988 over 30 years. If the Viaducts and overpasses had been that much of a problem then Truck 34 wouldn’t have been a Tower Ladder for so long. It seemed to be more of a district awareness problem. A mid mounted Tower Ladder might still make it a little less risky however.

Lincolnwood is keeping the current E15 2015 Spartan/US Tanker and the spare engine 2002 Spartan/Luverne. They have had issues with the us tanker engine and feel the Luverne is more reliable. The spare engine is stored at Niles Station 3, they have Horton Ambo that will be delivered sometime next year and in 2027 will order a pierce MM with delivery in 2031, Tower 15 is 2011 pierce arrow xt.

You can’t think of this as replacing the 8 year old front line. It’s realisically replacing the 22 year old reserve engine.

Lincolnwood must be doing pretty well financially if you consider that the frontline rig that this new Pierce is replacing in only 8 years old while the current recommended replacement age for front line rigs is 15 years old. Chicago is lucky to replace their front line rigs at 15 years old.
Lincolnwood’s current Reserve Engine 15 is an Ex Western Springs 2002 model Spartan Luverne which isn’t bad for a Reserve Engine.
Lincolnwood’s neighbor to the north, Skokie, has a Pierce mid mounted Tower Ladder on order in addition to 2 new Engines and a Pumper Squad. That is over half of their current frontline fleet.
