This from Larry Shapiro:
Buffalo Grove police and firefighters responded to a garage fire at 10:30 this morning at 630 Woodhollow Lane. A header was visible as companies left quarters. Upon arrival, crews had heavy fire blowing out of the garage that communicated into the house and the alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 working fire. They were informed that a person, last known to be in the garage, was unaccounted for. Firefighters attacked the fire and made entry to conduct a search. They encountered heavy fire and high heat, and were able to knock down the bulk of the fire within about 30 minutes. The missing person did not survive the fire.
Buffalo Grove was assisted by Long Grove, Arlington Heights, Libertyville, Linolnshire-Riverwoods, Lake Forest, and Wheeling. During the fire, a water main broke down the block and began to flood the adjoining street.

Excerpts from the journal-topics.com:
Elk Grove Village trustees approved the purchase of a new police, fire, and public works mobile command center at a cost of nearly $1.4 million through a joint-state purchasing cooperative at Tuesday’s (July 16) village board meeting.
The vehicle replaces a 2003 Ford E Series van, which was used as a mobile command center. Village officials said the van is old and has “outdated operating systems, inadequate interior space, obsolete technologies, and the determination that the current vehicle has reached the end of its useful life.”
The total cost of the Freightliner M2 Mobile Command Center, including all required equipment through the Houston-Galveston Area Council (HGAC) joint purchasing cooperative from LDV Custom Specialty Vehicles of Burlington, Wl, is $1,398,942.
Delivery is expected in June 2025, just before the majority of the village’s summer events.
The vehicle can comfortably fit 15 people at workstations. A detailed description of the vehicle, including photos on LDV’s website, shows that the vehicle sits on a Freightliner chassis, with slide-out walls, an exterior fold-out command center with a 55-inch weatherproof monitor, inside the vehicle a conference room with a table, and seating for six, four computer workstations, a galley, toilet, additional equipment storage, touchpad monitors throughout, exterior cameras and surveillance.
Elk Grove Village hosts regular summer events. The July 4 concert and fireworks display featuring a free concert by the Beach Boys drew a crowd estimated at 25,000 at the Rotary Green.
thanks Rob

Chief Tom Styczynski, of the Alsip Fire Department, said the second and third floor units on one side of the 6-unit building sustained extensive damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
Crestwood, Palos Heights Oak Lawn fire departments provided assistance in striking the fire, with Merrionette Park providing ambulance service.

Excerpts from wrex.com:
The Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department will transition to a full-time department starting Aug. 1. It’s a move that’s been in the works for more than a year. They’ll have ten personnel working around the clock, along with additional staff available to come in and help when needed.
The department has to follow stricter training guidelines, which will help attract and retain more firefighters, an issue for the department that used to contract from an outside company.
The full-time staff will be sworn-in next Monday, July 22, at 5:30 p.m. at Harlem-Roscoe Fire Dept. Station #3. The change will officially take effect Aug. 1.
thanks Dennis
