From Orland Professional Firefighters Local 2754
The Orland Professional Firefighters are excited to share the huge success of the Utility trial program created by Local 2754. As shown in the graph, Utility 1 vehicle has quickly become the busiest non transport vehicle in the history of our district. Thank you to our trustees for recognizing and approving our request to address the rapidly increasing emergency call volume.Tina MarieAngela Marie

Thanks Tim. It’s only been under Vice for a month but seems to be working and I’m sure knowing orland they’ll expand on this apparatus responsibilities as time goes on.

Mike, maybe there’s confusion over hiring and reallocating. They didn’t hire more personnel (yet) to staff this, and they didn’t reallocate personnel. They upped their minimum daily staffing from 28 to 30. The union would only agree to this as long as a lieutenant was on it. They’re manning it now with extra guys when available and overtime. If their manning hits 32 on any particular day then Ambulance 1 is manned.
Harry, their shops did update the lighting all around the rig. Got rid of the 1990’s flashers and strobes and went to LEDS.

Tim this was copied off their Facebook page
Sammie Mathis no we did not hire any additional staffing, we reallocated the current staffing model. We have been staffed with 28 daily personnel since we were running 6,000 calls. We are now on pace for 14k in 2023
Maybe we will get an answer from someone then

So they did increase staffing by 2 on each shift, and this is not a reallocating of manpower.
Ambulance 1 was not taken out of service and is not manned with overtime. It’s only manned when they’re manpower heavy for that particular day.
The tower ladder does about 10-12 runs a day, mostly EMS. This will help cut down the wear and tear.

Ambulance 1 was barely in service it was typically an overtime rig staffed occasionally.

Michael yes. According to the orland Facebook page this is staffed with an officer and firefighter. They do EMS response and provide additional manpower when needed. They said they did this without increasing staffing and by just reallocating manpower. Looking at the stats it looks like ambulance 1 was taken out of service and this was put in its place.

I am guessing this takes the place of the tower ladder for EMS responses. That should save a lot of miles and wear and tear on the 2021 tower.

They should have done that 10 years ago. They wouldn’t had to buy another tower ladder so soon.
