From The Pierce Manufacturing YouTube channel:
Walk around this Enforcer pumper with Des Plaines Fire Department Lieutenant Minas Klikas. The apparatus is equipped with #TAK4 Independent Front Suspension to help with tight corners and was designed to have a longer wheelbase which measures 234 inches. The grab rails are recessed for driver’s safety when grabbing. The truck implemented a squad-based type cab which utilizes space for dive, hazmat, fire suppression, and ALS equipment. Palatine Firefighter Memorial Ceremony
On Friday, October 1, 2021, the Palatine Fire Department will be hosting a memorial ceremony to recognize the service and sacrifice of Palatine volunteer Firefighters Wesley Comfort Jr. and Leonard Nebel.
Volunteer Fire Truck Strikes Train; 1 Killed, Chicago Daily Tribune, Dated: October 2, 1946
“On October 1, 1946, two volunteer firefighters from the Palatine Fire Department were fatally injured in the line of duty while responding to a fire when their fire truck collided with a Chicago and Northwestern Railroad passenger train. The fire engine was destroyed in the collision, and the vehicle was dragged for nearly 100 feet.
Firefighter Leonard Nebel died at the scene and was survived by his widow and five children. Wesley Comfort, Jr., son of the fire chief, was treated at Palatine Community Hospital until succumbing to his injuries on October 5.”
The memorial ceremony will be held at the Palatine Firefighters Memorial at the corner of N. Brockway Street and W. Slade Street in downtown Palatine. The Palatine Fire Department Honor Guard will step off from Fire Station 85 at 39 E. Colfax Street at approximately 8:45 a.m. and march to the Palatine Firefighters Memorial. The ceremony will begin with the arrival of the Honor Guard at approximately 9:00 a.m. and include a wreath presentation and ringing of the ceremonial fire bell. From the southern.com:
A Chicago Fire Department paramedic treating a patient inside a hospital emergency room narrowly escaped serious injury when a bullet shattered a window and struck his hat.
According to police, a person in an older model green Buick pulled up to Stroger Hospital on Chicago’s near West Side and opened fire at about 10:30 p.m. on Saturday before speeding off. The paramedic was not injured and no arrests have been made as of Sunday morning, police said.
The incident happened about 24 hours after a Chicago police officer was shot in the leg on the city’s South Side. The 30-year-old officer who was shot while she and her partner got out of their squad car to render aid to a man who was lying in the street, was treated at an area hospital and released on Saturday.
The officer was the 12th member of the department to be shot this year and the 46th to be shot at or shot.
