South Chicago Heights Fire Department news

This from Brad Steinweg:

I came across this on Google street view last night. South Chicago Heights now has a new station located on Sauk Trail and the one on Jackson AVE is now closed. Not sure how long this new station has been in use.

For American LaFrance collectors

This from John Tobin:

ALF 1000 series restoration. Reportedly it was a brand new rig in the 1970s belonging to the South Chicago Heights, IL FD. In the mid 1990s the cab was purchased by the Zion, IL fire department and 3-D metals cut the roof off and made a closed cab out of an open cab on their AP. I decided it had too much potential to go to the melting pot and I finally cut just the front off, mounted it on wheels, new paint and a South Park bell and there you have it.
If any ALF lover is interested in this please let me know. The Elgin logo can easily come off and a new department name can be re-applied.

Box Alarm in South Chicago Heights, 6-28-15

This from Eric Hack:

At approximately 14:45 hrs on Sunday (6/28) afternoon, the South Chicago Heights Fire Department was toned out to the report of a fully-involved structure at 3210 East End Avenue.  PD was reportedly on the scene confirming a working incident and the first arriving company immediately requested a MABAS Box.  I arrived 30 minutes after the initial call.  Departments on the scene included South Chicago Heights, Steger Estates, Steger, Park Forest, University Park, Chicago Heights, Crete, Matteson, Beecher, Richton Park, Flossmor, Homewood and Monee.  There may have been more that I did not see.  Box # was 7611 for the fire.  There was also a HAZMAT Box 7699 for advisors only and a 2nd Alarm Investigator’s Box.

South Chicago Heights photo history

In MABAS Division 27, an historical gallery has been added for the South Chicago Heights Fire Department. Currently, the gallery features 15 images including a reproduction of a photo showing the original fire station from the early 1900s.

This copy of an old photo from Bill Friedrich shows the original South Chicago Heights fire station with an engine that we have no information about.

This beautiful rig was one of two Hi-Ranger aerials in the metropolitan Chicago area outside of the CFD. It would be great to add an image to the gallery of this unit working at a fire!

South Chicago Heights and Park Forest will share ambulances

Dennis McGuire, Jr. spotted an article HERE which

The South Chicago Heights Village Board approved a new ambulance sharing agreement with Park Forest Monday night.

The agreement with Park Forest was approved during the board’s regular business meeting. The village’s former agreement with Crete Township was withdrawn when the latter built a third station, said Fire Chief Larry Nardoni. Park Forest has had a sharing agreement with Matteson and other communities for about 10 years. It will cost South Chicago Heights $500 to buy into the arrangement for one year, he said.
