According to the MPFD, they arrived on scene at 12:21, four minutes after the call was received at their dispatch. Prospect Heights’ Engine 39 arrived at 12:37 as part of the working fire upgrade response. It was at least several minutes later when various officers began to report that sections of the roof and ceiling were collapsing. As can be seen in the photos, this was a split-level home and the fire was in both the upper and lower attics. Members were withdrawn to allow the tower ladder to attack the fire. Once the fire was diminished and the interior water load managed, crews overhauled. It appeared that while the entire structure suffered smoke and water damage, the bulk of the actual fire damage was confined to the attic space.

Just curious what happened that they went defensive on this one? Nothing outside suggested a heavy volume of fire.
