Joe according to the box card where the fire was located, Des Plaines Tower 81 was the first-due truck on the still alarm along with Engine 61 as the second engine. On the Code 4 working fire, Niles Tower 2 and Engine 2 were both due. As far as Park Ridge goes, their Engine 35 was due as the RIT company on the Code 4. Tower Ladder 36 wasn’t due to that fire.
One of the problems with the current MABAS box alarms is that usually one fire suppression company is sent per town. Niles and Des Plaines are the exceptions here. Since a Park Ridge engine was due their truck stayed home. Because of that rule many companies get passed over for units that have to respond from further away. If they did it like they do in Chicago, they would have been sending the companies based on their distance from the fire and the companies from further away would be move up to change quarters for companies already at the fire. That’s not done too often in the MABAS system in northern Illinois.
Even though Park Ridge Tower Ladder 36 wasn’t due, Northbrook Tower Ladder 12 and Glenview Truck 14 were both on the box alarm. Rosemont Tower Ladder 158 was on the 2nd alarm and on the 3rd Alarm Skokie was due with a truck. Even though Skokie Truck 18 was located closer to the fire I understand that SKokie sent Tower Ladder 16.
Four of the six truck companies due at that fire were tower ladders. They only have truck companies assigned until the 3rd alarm so if more are needed they are special called. Niles Truck 2 wasn’t running with their tower ladder, they were running with a spare.

I’m surprised Park Ridge and Des Plaines Towers weren’t there

What happened to Niles 2014 Tower ladder? Is it in the shop? I see Niles Engine 2 was there.
