Hello,With all the fuss about Frankfort buying a Snorkel, here is an old photo of Frankfort’s first Snorkel. Unknown manufacturer/type/height, but still great to look at. Sold in later years to the Robbins Fire Department. Hope you enjoy,Mike S.

Call Chief Bob Wilson or Battalion Chief Wally Curtin. Both men remember that rig very well and have so many amazing stories to tell about it. They could tell you just about every facet of that truck and some great fires it was on. I know the G-Lumber and bowling lanes in Richton Park it was there. Also in Richton Park in the late 90s had two or three huge condo complex go up from open water / plumbing shafts that would send fire straight to the roof, which was a pitched over a flat. They were huge fires and I know Frankfort was there. I remember specifically on one of them, I was on Park Forest at the time. We were on the third floor inside an apartment unit looking in plumbing chases for hidden fire. Next thing I knew the sliding glass doors exploded from the balcony and this huge bowling ball on a chain came swinging through the room. It turned out the bowling ball was a souvenir from the bowling alley fire and they rigged it up to a huge chain and would launch it through the windows to ventilate. As a young fire fighter, it was pretty damn cool to see that. I hope they revive it with the new Snorkel.

If that is in fact the former Geneva FD Snorkle 206 then those rooftop warning lights and the Federal Q were added after it lefft Geneva. Originally 206 had Federal revolving lights with clear glass round-top domes and red and white bulbs. The siren was mechanical but not a Q and had a stationary red lens with a bulb and reflector arrangement that covered the entire front of the siren. If you go to this link and scroll down you will see the former appearance.

Maybe those light bars were added later on.

One thing that really caught my eye are the Federal Signal Vector lightbars on such an old rig, quite unique to see something like this on a mid 60s apparatus.

Most Snorkels do look super shape, just like this one.
That red circle on the siren appears be to a warning light… at least to me.

Nice old classic. Take note of the red circle on the siren.

Does anyone know if Frankfort bought this snorkel new or if it was purchased used and from where?

It was in service in Geneva, IL before Frankfort. The pump was eventually removed from the apparatus as well.
