This from Asher Heimermann:
The 16th Great Milwaukee Fire Muster was held Saturday, June 27th at Milwaukee Area Technical College’s Oak Creek campus. Antique and present-day firefighting apparatus was on display including Milwaukee Fire Department’s Special Teams (Dive, HAZMAT, Structural Collapse). There were emergency service demonstrations and a flea market. A Flight for Life helicopter made an appearance in the morning.
The event was held in conjunction with the Wisconsin State Fire Chiefs’ convention.

I know what you are talking about and I have heard about that project for a few years now. Check with the Milwaukee Fire Historical Society since I’m fairly sure that someone in that group is working on that even though it looks like their website hasn’t been touched for a few years.

While I was at the muster, one of the vendors told me that he was going to publish a book on the history of Milwaukee’s firehouses and it would be available for the holidays. Can anyone provide further info?
Thanks in advance.

For one, Milwaukee’s muster is every other year while Chicago’s is annual. Secondly, not all the suburbs seem to embrace the Chicago event and I am sure some of the antique apparatus owners attend other suburban events through the summer.
The Milwaukee muster was indeed impressive and I was amazed at the number of antique Racine rigs. The 1953 FWD and the 1949 Mack were in superb condition. So much so, that I doubt if they were original Racine rigs, but they sure looked cool.
Many of us have grown accustomed to the rigs normally displayed at the Chicago muster so Milwaukee might have seemed more impressive to us simplye because it was new and different.

Perhaps people are uncertain about parking in Chicago near that location. I thought about going this year but I had other things going that day anyway. But then again there’s always AMTRAK and a cab for me to consider. It would still be of concern for me for the parking issue since I don’t like to scurry around and get crabby. 🙂 However, there is at least a 50% chance that I’ll attend the IL. Emergency vehicle show this year.

I was very impressed by the Great Milwaukee Muster this year but why cannot the Chicago Fire Engine Rally have a bigger turn out?

Yes it was a great time. Too bad they didn’t have any pump demonstrations but hey, there was still plenty to see. I got to see Flight For Life leave and that had to be one of the biggest flea market I have seen in all the years of that muster and I’ve been to all of them since 1987.
