Area EMS pioneer Dr. Stanley Zydlo dies

I hardly know how to type these words. Our beloved mentor, founder, and friend, Dr. Stan Zydlo, entered heaven this past night. He was a force for good that changed the world of EMS and his passing marks the end of an era. We are all his living legacy and the mantle falls to us to continue his vision and work in faithful duty to serve the healthcare needs of future generations.

In speaking with his wife Joyce yesterday afternoon, she shared that he had been ill and was admitted to NCH. We assured her of our love and concern for the whole Zydlo family. I’m confident that System members will support and sustain them now and in the months and years to come.

Here are some photos from the Still & Box at 99th and Wallace on 6/3/15. Companies arrived to the house fully involved with exposure problems on both sides. No squad was available as squad 5 was still on Lowe.

Here are some photos from the Still & Box at 6605 S Lowe on 6/3/15. Companies originally went interior for an attack but once the chimney collapsed they pulled out and went defensive putting Squad 5A to work.

Back to back Still & Box alarm fires in Chicago, 6-2-15

Tuesday night (6/2/15), the EFAO sent Truck 30 to a still @ 66th & Lowe. We started heading that way when Engine 54 arrived and had a 2-sty, wood frame with fire showing on the 2nd floor. Multiple lines were stretched and they put Squad 5 to work. While crews were in the overhaul stage of this fire, Engine 93 landed with a fully-involved 1.5-sty house @ 99th and Wallace, who then requested a box shortly after arrival. We left 66th street and headed down there. Here are some shots from both fires.
