I agree with Robert. It would be easier and much more convenient to stay with one fleet. They are nice looking rig’s and well built from what I hear so staying with and converting to all Spartan would make life easier for everyone. Although I love Pierce and am a big fan of them, Spartan has come along way and have a very good product theses day’s. Also to agree with 0.02, the jack spreads on the e-ones where always awesome to set up. Always thought it was a great set up. Hopefully you guy’s get those towers ordered and start getting them before we are all dead and buried. Stay safe brothers and God bless.

In Chicago’s latest “Department of Procurement Services” buying plan they anticipate having an order for “100 foot towers ladders” go out to bid in the 3rd quarter of 2014. Since this proposed order for new Tower Ladders has been in the City’s buying plan for over a year already and the request for bids has been getting postponed for a while , I wouldn’t hold my breath.
Who knows maybe they will finally put in a request for bids since now the contract negotiations with Local 2 seem to be just about concluded.
Even with the current straight Aerial Ladders that we have been getting over the last few years , it actually took at least 3 separate rounds of bids over a period of at least a year before the city was finally satisfied with the bids in order to place an order for new Aerial Ladders.

CFD should stay with the Spartans. I’ve been with CFD long enough to tell you what is good and what isn’t. The new ladder trucks are wonderful. The old Pierce and E-one ladder trucks were good. But since CFD has been working with Spartan, they have designed wonder units which I love to work on everyday. I can’t wait for the new ladder trucks to be complete

Well it would make sense for them to stay with Spartan but hopefully they really consider E-One. The spares, while very old, are still running and the jack spread is the best by far.

That’s a nice looking rig and I can’t help but wonder how much of it meets Chicago’s spec’s for new Tower Ladders (assuming that the CFD has specs written up for an upcoming request for bids for new Tower Ladders)?
