Another new unit is getting ready to be put into service at Niles Station 2. Last week we posted the new Engine 2 for Niles as submitted by Karl Klotz.
Now we have photos from Larry Shapiro of the new Ambulance 2 for Niles along with some additional information.
- The current unit assigned to Ambulance 2 (2008 IHC 4300/2009 Medtec Type I) has already been renumbered as Ambulance 3, where it will be assigned.
- The current Ambulance 3 will become a reserve piece
- The current Ambulance 3R will reportedly be disposed of
Niles is finalizing specs for another new engine to be purchased for Engine 3.
When the new Engine 2 goes into service:
- the current Engine 2 will move to Engine 3
- the current Engine 3 will become a reserve piece
- the current Engine 3R is being disposed of
A correction on the specs for Engine 2 from the previous post:
- there are two 25-gallon foam tanks, A & B
Niles is finalizing specs for a tower ladder for Truck 2. When the new unit is in service:
- the current Truck 2 will become a reserve piece
- Quint 2, the 75′ Pierce Arrow that was formerly owned by the North Maine FPD will reportedly be disposed of

Pierce will build both unit’s Mike. I remember when that quint was brand new…(worked as a poc at nmfd) and I remember what a top heavy monster it is. I also remember when niles wrecked it! Wasn’t there then but my buddy’s told me about it. I didn’t realize it was oos. Niles blew the engine? Well like someone here said about current truck 2 “you don’t know what your getting with something that old. Hope Des Plaines has better luck with their new/used ladder.

The former North Maine Quint has had a blown motor for over a year. Its at the Public service garage in the back building. The Current Truck 2 is just a big turd as the old tiller was. That’s what happens when you buy a 15 year old truck sight unseen with over 100K on it and then dump another $50K in repairs to try to keep it on the road. Their best bet was to get rid of the Tiller and the Quint 2 years ago when hey bought someone else’s trouble. That’s Niles Fleet manager… Penny wise and Pound foolish…

It would be nice if Niles would get a new truck. The one they have is always out of service. Morton Grove wants there squad back. What happened to the 75 ft quint they had
