The Chicago Fire Department deployed Engine 2 (The Christopher Wheatley) and land-based engine companies on Sunday to cool down several bridges that would not close properly due to the high heat. Gordon J. Nord, Jr. was in the city and submitted several images.

Usually in high heat and humidity situations. Not a daily occurrence but not abnormal in the summer months in Chicago. Usually July and August and not June though

Thanks Brian- I only ask because I lived pretty close to all of these bridges (Esp. State Street Bridge) for 6 years and never came across this type of event. Interesting stuff.

Garrett it is common in the summers for the old bridges to expand and not close properly without being cooled down. CFD will do this to keep the streets/bridges open
