Regarding the Snozzle, Oshkosh bought this device from Crash Rescue Equipment of Dallas, TX a while back. The device is offered in two configurations: An ARFF version that only rotates 15 degrees left or right of center allowing it to be deployed while driving and the structural version that has outriggers and deploys nearly perpendicular to the vehicle. While some may not find value in a piercing nozzle on a structural pumper, the high reach extendable turret (HRET) provides much greater versatility than a typical deck gun, albeit at a substantial cost. Compare the Snozzle to Smeal’s Squrt. Both are articulating. The Smeal Tele-Squrt, Pierce Sky-Boom, and E-One Teleboom all telescope but do not articulate.

If you notice they also have a 2″ smoothbore tip on the Snozzle. Just like everything else its a tool in the toolbox that won’t be used at every fire but will be used with appropriate. We need to stop being so critical and start understanding that staffing dictates tactics. These guys have addressed a need!

I was literally asking why or what the requirement was and I get a bunch of crap saying “they bought it for a reason.” I was legitimately curious if someone knew what that reason is. I’m not from around Delavan so I had no idea if they have some airport or commercial application that warranted it. Thanks for the feedback?

Go to you-tube and watch Delavan FD roll in to a fully involved house fire. Watch how quick they start water flowing and obtain a positive water supply! These guys and girls take the fire ground work seriously. They wanted a Snozzle for a reason and they are drilling with it. Keep up with them!

Who cares why they do or don’t need it? They obviously bought it for a reason

I don’t know why they have a piercing nozzle, but it would make quick work of an attic fire

Right, interesting rig why not just lay a 1-3/4″ attack line and put the fire out.

What’s going on in Delavan that they need a piercing nozzle on their Squrt?
