Fred having Glenview’s Truck/ Quint at Station 14 is really a duplication of services as the next station north of Station 14 is Northbrook Station 12 which normally responds with their Tower Ladder/Quint 12.Both stations are located about a mile from Willow and Shermer which is on the border of both Northbrook and Glenview. As both Stations would (or should) be responding first and second due to that area near the town’s mutual border it would just make more sense if Truck/Quint 14 were relocated deeper into the Village of Glenview instead one mile from the northern border where Northbrook’s Tower Ladder/Quint 12 would also be responding from one mile north of Willow road.
As both Stations 12 (Northbrook ) and 14 (Glenview) currently are both running with large Aerial/Quints it would smarter (in my opinion) to have Station 14 run with an Engine first due instead of the Ladder/Quint because the way it is now both Northbrook’s Aerial/Quint and Glenview”s Aerial Quint are responding to and getting tied up on the same alarms near the towns border.
While Northbrook Station 12 is the most Centrally located station in Northbrook and is the best location for their Tower Ladder ,a good case can be made for moving Glenview’s Ladder/Quint to the New Station 6 as that station is located downtown (more or less) and is located closer to the center of town. A case can be made for relocating their Truck/Quint there as Engine 13 is located just over a mile east of the new Station 6 and Station 7 is located about 2 and a half miles south west of the new Station 6 while Station 14 is 2 and half miles northwest of the new Station 6 so having the Truck/Quint located in between those 3 stations makes strategic sense.

Bill,
wouldn’t relocating Truck 14 that far south make it an unfavorable location for lots of mutual aid to the north? (Station 14 ideally located near Willow rd)…..
& wouldnt removing the engine from station 6 leave south Glenview without an engine company nearby–also unfavorable?
I’m not expert; what are your thoughts?

Michael M , the station is being built to be able to house up to “9 fire fighters” but it will most likely be used to house 6 of them. The manpower housed would most likely be a 3 man crew from Engine 6, a 2 man crew from Ambulance 6 and a Battalion Chief ( which is based on the crew that was housed in Old station 6 on Glenview road).
There had been some speculation over a year ago that Station 13 could be moved into the new Station 6, however that would be a big waste of money as Station 13 is not more than 11 years old and is a new and roomy building and also houses some reserve apparatus that most likely wouldn’t fit into the new Station 6 if Engine 13 were to be moved in with them.
I personally think that Truck/Quint 14 might be better off being relocated into the new Station 6 and have Engine 6 go in service at Station 14 instead. In my opinion that would better balance the distribution of fire companies in Glenview. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are considering that option.

Beautiful station. Looks like the exterior is complete. I am guessing they are working on the interior now. How many firefighters will it be able to house?

Crabby ,even though I don’t live in Glenview , it just so happens that over the last few weeks I have passed the site by several times and as you can see they have been making fast progress on it. The last that I heard they wanted to open it by the end of the year. If they stick to that plan it could be open in about a month or even less.
