Firegeezer.com mentions this morning:
This past Monday the Peacock Network announced that they had picked up the option for a new series following a proposal by the producers and have ordered a pilot episode to be produced under the title Chicago Fire (how original). The publicity office tells us, “This action-driven drama explores the complex and heroic men and women of the Chicago Fire Dept.” Wow!
Check out the information that he has posted HERE.

They are supposed to be doing the filming in Chicago of the pilot for series right now, in between March 14th and April 1st. And they were doing some work pertaining to the show at Engine 95’s quarters which I had seen on a related website.

Just found this site and I think it’s great! I’m a Los Angeles area buff and I can’t wait to see how this show comes out since there hasn’t been a good firefighting show with action on in a long time. I would like to point out that it is not unprecedented for television shows to film in real firehouses. The horrible ’90’s show “L.A. Firefighters” was filmed in old L.A. City 27’s which was no longer in service at the time of filming. Another ’90’s show, “Rescue 77” was filmed at out of service Glendale FD Station 21. The British show “London’s Burning” was filmed at an in service fire station as well as in a studio. I hope too, they use CFD technical advisers and real/spare rigs. That would help a lot with realism!

read an article today sounds like the show will be featuring paramedics and a squad company and a batt. chief….. also the pilot is filming in late march or april

it would also be cool if it was a house loosely based on 116’s ambo a command car an engine and a squad company

i dont think with the technology now it would be too hard i mean they pulled it off in backdraft and filmed in 3 different firehouses. and dick wolf did several law and order episodes with scenes in actual fdny houses so it can be done. even on rescue me the firehouse wasnt an actual firehouse but the apparatus bay was an old auto repair shop mocked up but i imagine they had the same problem with acoustics and such

You guys do realize that none of these are actually shot “in” fire houses, right? Yes there may be external shots, but 99.99% of inside shots and scenes are stages. It’s just almost damn near impossible to get proper lighting and acoustics in an already existing structure.

Engine 38’s firehouse has all the painting on it and Engine 109’s old house is big enough for a truck engine chief and AMBO if the put the chiefs buggy in the middle or in front of the trucks bay

only issue is the 2 houses i thought of were 91 old house and 108’s. 91’s is a park district building i believe and 108’s is streets and san

Danny, you are correct about Engine 108’s house. In the south bay they had Squad 11 in front of Engine 108. In the north bay they had Truck 23 (which was an old Tillered Hook and Ladder) and on the south side of the Truck, Ambulance 7 and the Chief of the 22nd Battalion were parked next to each other. The Battalion Chief and Ambulance usually used the north bay door that Truck 23 used, as the north bay had a little more room and was longer then the south bay. Squad 11 had moved in on January 16 1956. Before that the Squad was at Engine 89’s former quarters at Knox and Sunnyside.

i was thinking e 108’s old house by the jeff park bus terminal. i mean back in the day they had t23, e108, a squad, a chief i think its a small lookin house but it had 5 companies in it in the 50’s and 60’s someone who knows more then me will probably correct this

I think it would have to be at a house big enough to house an engine, truck, ambulance, and a chief.

Old house, how about E-18, E-38 or E-109 In the day they were as good as it gets.
#14 by danny on January 31, 2012 - 12:53 AM
now the question is what old firehouse are they gonna film in?
#15 by Bill Post on January 30, 2012 - 7:05 PM
Grumpy, Crown is not around. As you know they were at one time almost exclusively used in Southern California by the LA City and County Fire Departments as well as several smaller fire departments. Crown went out of business in 1985. An interesting fact is that Forest Park Illinois used to run with a 1963 model Crown with an 85-foot Snorkel on it and a 1,250-gpm pump which made it a quint. It ran as their truck company.

dick wolf (law and order fame) is suppose to produce it. article also says “This action-driven drama explores the complex and heroic men and women of the Chicago Fire Dept.” cant wait!!!!!!!!!!! this should be good!!!!!!!!!!!!
#17 by Grumpy grizzly on January 30, 2012 - 4:42 PM
The gentlemen who are producing this also did 3: to Yuma. If you want to succeed in this genre, well you better be spot on. Accuracy is paramount, is Crown still around?

i read an article that said the entire show will be filmed in chicago.. no word on when but if its announcd now it should be for the fall schedule or a mid season replacement in dec or jan

If its like other public safety centered TV shows of the past two decades it will be more concerned with the interpersonal exploits and who’s sleeping with who rather than authentic portrayals of operations (artistic license accepted-come on, they only have 44 minutes-Norm Abrams has to build a chest of drawers in less than 30 minutes). Here’s to something that looks more like Emergency! than the other garbage.

Great news. Hopefully the network bigshots will use technical advisors from the CFD as well as the proper equipment and firehouses. Let’s cross our fingers!!!

What is the Show Called & When will it come on tv?
#22 by Bill Friedrich on January 29, 2012 - 1:55 PM
Bill I was thinking the same thing. It would be a shame to see Seagrave tractor trailers and Crown pumpers pulling up to buildings that do not resemble Chicago. Only time will tell. By the way where have you been? I miss your great comments. I learn something new each time. Ring in my friend.
#23 by Bill Post on January 29, 2012 - 1:46 PM
So the big question is, will it be filmed in Chicago and how long before they are ready to start filming here? I also wonder if they have contacted the CFD and have begun making arrangements for using any old fire stations or CFD apparatus (like spare rigs) that they can use for props on the show?
