This from Steve Redick:
Here is a radio traffic recording I made of a 2nd alarm fire at 5945 Dempster in Morton Grove. I believe this was on January 25, 1989. The battalion chief who had the fire was Norman Ruth. This was a real dandy and I was there just after the initial attack lines were laid. If you listen closely you can here all kinds of classic dispatching and RED Center radio traffic from the good old days. The fireground traffic is very telling if you listen closely as well. Old suburban traffic is hard to come by and is a very minute portion of my archive but this is a real classic.

This was an auto inside a detail shop at 8821 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Niles … not much to see firewise but a few decent rig shots. Both of Niles’ new pumpers as well as their newer tower and Morton Grove’s newest engine
Excerpts from ABC7Chicago.com:
An 87-year-old woman died of injuries she suffered when her clothing caught fire as she cooked Friday morning in her Morton Grove home.
Morton Grove firefighters responded about 11:20 a.m. to Alice Gutenkauf’s home in the 8400 block of Mason Avenue. Her clothing caught fire as she heated water in her kitchen and she suffered first and third-degree-burns to 70 percent of her body, the fire department said.
She was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, but was later transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where she died at 8:38 p.m.
Her death was ruled accidental after an autopsy on Saturday.

Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:
Morton Grove Village President Dan DiMaria tapped Frank Rodgers, a former district chief and 26-year veteran of the fire department, to be the next fire chief and trustees approved the appointment at the Oct. 24 village board meeting.
Rodgers, 56, started working in the position on Oct. 25 and will be formally sworn in on Nov. 14. His annual base salary is $130,500. He replaces former Chief Tom Friel, who retired in August.
Rodgers first joined the Morton Grove Fire Department in 1990 as a firefighter-paramedic. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2004 and district chief in 2007. Before being named chief, Rodgers worked with the Northwest Municipal Conference writing specifications for apparatus and equipment on a number of committees. Before becoming chief, Rodgers also served as training officer.
The new chief said he has no immediate plans to make any significant changes within the department.
Glenview firefighters were called to 526 Woodland Drive on Monday afternoon (5/30/16) for a house with heavy black smoke filling the structure. The header was visible as companies responded to the scene and the alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 for the working fire. Northfield, Wilmette, Morton Grove, and Skokie units were due on the alarm. The fire was contained quickly to a bedroom and portion of the attic though the home’s interior sustained heavy smoke damage throughout.
