Lake Zurich firefighters were dispatched to a fire Monday night at the Burger King Restaurant, 642 S. Rand Road. Smoke was visible on arrival by the main door of the newly remodeled building. After hitting a fire on the exterior of the building, fire spread to an area behind a parapet and flames were visible from the roof. The alarm was upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm for additional resources. Aerial master streams were deployed from the Wauconda Tower 341 and Buffalo Grove Quint 27. Firefighters on the roof then finished mopping up the area.
A partial list of companies at the scene included four Lake Zurich engines plus engines from Fox River Grove, Countryside, Wheeling and Palatine. Trucks from Wauconda, Buffalo Grove, and Arlington Heights. Squads from Long Grove, Cary, and Libertyville. Ambulances from Barrington, Barrington-Countryside, Palatine Rural and Nunda Rural.

Excerpts from the DailyHerald.com:
Firefighters rescued six ducklings from a sewer Thursday afternoon in Lake Zurich and reunited them with their mom after a resident called to report the ducklings were trapped in a sewer at 235 S. Rand Road.
Firefighters removed one manhole cover and were able to reach five of ducklings. The sixth duckling had walked down a sewer pipe, so firefighters had to remove a second manhole cover.
The ducklings’ mother had a nest nearby.

Lake Zurich firefighters were sent to 21100 Shirley Road in unincorporated Palatine this morning (3/18/19) for a barn fire. Reports were that chickens and horses were inside the small barn and most if not all appeared to have escaped. A huge header was visible for miles, but companies got water on the fire very quickly and the fire was knocked down within 15 minutes though there was considerable overhaul which kept them busy for close to an hour.
Units at the scene in addition to Lake Zurich companies were a Wauconda tower ladder, tankers from Long Grove, Barrington Countryside, and the Countryside FPD along with engines from Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, and Fox River Grove. Barrington Ambulance 1 was at the scene for rehab.

From Lake Zurich meeting minutes:
Authorization to Purchase a 2019 Pierce Saber Fire Engine from Global Emergency Products in the Amount Not-to-Exceed $539,214 (Trustee Shaw)
Summary: The 2019 budget includes $572,000 to replace a 22-year old fire engine from 1997 with 135,000 miles on it. Currently, the Fire Rescue Department operates five engines from four stations serving approximately 37,000 residents over a 25-square mile geographic area. The replacement engine is proposed to be purchased from Global Emergency Products using the Houston-Galveston Area Council Purchasing Cooperative, a national joint- purchasing cooperative. The Fire District will contribute its share of the engine purchase, roughly $269,000, relieving some burden on Village finances.
Recommended Action: A motion to authorize the purchase of one 2019 Pierce Saber fire engine from Global Emergency Products in the Amount Not-to- Exceed $539,214.

Rago initially drove around two emergency vehicles while firefighters were working to extinguish a structure fire, police said. She was released on $3,000 bond with a court date set for Oct. 9 in Waukegan, police said.
