House fire in Buffalo Grove, 2-21-17

This from Larry Shapiro:

Buffalo Grove firefighters were dispatched after 2PM Tuesday afternoon (2/21/17) for smoke coming from the house at 504 Crown Point Drive. Police officers arrived first and reported smoke from the eaves and the alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 for the working fire.

The house was thought to have no occupants and companies made entry and encountered heavy smoke conditions. The fire was contained to the kitchen though firefighters recovered a dog that perished.

Mutual aid companies included Long Grove, Arlington Heights, Palatine, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, and Mundelein. Other units were assigned to cover the Buffalo Grove stations.

2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 6-21-16

Excerpts from ABC7Chicago.com:

One dog was rescued, a firefighter was injured, and one dog was killed in a Tuesday afternoon fire in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood.

The 2-11 alarm fire broke out in the 2700-block of North Campbell around 12:30 p.m. The original fire building was at 2720 N. Campbell and had exposures to north and south.

A Chicago police officer was driving on I-90 when she noticed the smoke pouring from the home. She hopped off the expressway, ran into the burning building and helped four people get out. She was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation then returned to her shift.

The fire spread from the originating building to a neighboring structure. There were two dogs inside the burning homes cell phone video shows firefighters running one of them out of the house.

Both buildings are now un-inhabitable. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Chicago Still & Box Alarm fire, 9-26-14

This from Eric Haak:

Engine 126 arrived at 7733 S. South Shore Drive shortly before 1600 on Saturday afternoon and reported that they had a fire on the third floor of a five-story apartment building.  The fire was boxed less than 10 minutes later as the fire was communicating to the unit above the initial fire unit and calls were coming in from distressed residents on the 4th floor.  Companies led out through the basement garage and also through a 3rd floor window in the front of the building.  Chest compressions were performed and oxygen given in an attempt to resuscitate a dog that was rescued from the fire floor, but sadly those efforts were in vain. One resident was transported with minor smoke inhalation from the neighboring apartment.  Residents reported that there were no working smoke detectors on the fire floor.
