This from Eric Haak:
Engine 47 landed at 6416 S. Cottage Grove Avenue at about 4:50 Saturday morning (7/15) and reported heavy fire on the second floor and through the roof and asked for the box. Ten minutes later, Battalion 5 reported they had heavy fire through the roof and that they were completely defensive. It was elevated to a 2-11 a few minutes later. There was a 2-11 in the building next door on July 8, 2012 and pictures of that incident can be seen in the archives of this site.

This from Bob Carroll:
With all the buzz surrounding the new squads, I captured Squad 5 responding to the Still and Box Alarm 2300 W. 111th St. on June 3rd.
This from Steve Redick:
48 W Garfield Blvd, Saturday (3/11/17). Looks like squad 5 has a length or 2 of 1 3/4 strapped to the front bumper to use off an engine or divider … cool!Steve

Not something you see everyday. Squad 5 at a pedestrian struck by a train Addison/Central Park. Also looks like the new squad went into service.

This from Eric Haak:
At approximately 0605 hrs on Sunday morning (2/12), the Englewood Fire Alarm Office received several calls for a fire at the intersection of 44th and Shields Ave. Engine 50 landed on the scene and confirmed a fire in a 2.5-story vacant frame with exposure to a 1.5-story occupied frame. Two minutes later, the 2nd Battalion reported he had heavy fire in the 2.5-story and requested a Box. The first image below was taken just before Engine 50 opened up with their deck gun which knocked down a lot of the visible fire in the front. There was a lot of fire extension into the occupied exposure and companies made an interior attack on that structure. Eventually Squad 5’s Snorkel and Tower Ladder 39 were brought down to mop up the remaining fire in the original building which was under rehab. In an October, 2015 Google Streets image, the building was a Red-X and appeared to have had a basement fire in it previously.
