Working fire in Chicago, October 26, 2024

This from Eric Haak:

Here are a few images taken in Chicago last weekend. This was a vacant home in the 19th Battalion. There was fire in the basement, first floor, and attic and most of the initial attack was done defensively. Eventually companies went interior and mopped up.

Working fire in Chicago, 6-24-18

This from Eric Haak:

Chicago’s 19th Battalion had a working fire this morning (Sunday, 6/24) at 7241 S. Sangamon. The fire came in at 5:45 and Engine 54 landed a short time later with a fire on the first floor. I arrived just in time to catch companies washing down. While the rear attic window was being laddered, a mother pitbull and 5 of her puppies came charging out the back door. Thankfully, all were friendly and didn’t seem at all bothered by the work going on around them.

Working fire in Chicago, 7/9/17

This from Eric Haak:

Just a few images from a working fire on Sunday morning (7/9). When I was a block away, there was still some fairly heavy smoke coming up from the home and I was coming from about 4 miles away. Needless to say, companies made quick work of this attic fire.

Still & Box Alarm fire – 3/22/15

This from Eric Haak:

I took in this Still & Box at 8106 S. Ada Sunday morning (3/22/15).  The very first image in the set was taken 3 minutes after the Box was requested.  I was about a quarter mile away and there was a decent amount of black smoke drifting across the sky.  By the time I parked and walked around the corner, there was almost no smoke at all.  Looks can be deceiving.  There were communication problems with the “D” sector exposure which was vacant, and that was the reason for the Box.  The occupancy of the initial building was said to be at church.

Chicago Still & Box Alarm 11-24-13

This from Eric Haak:

At 1412hrs on Sunday, November 24th, companies on Chicago’s south side were dispatched to a report of a structure fire on the 8000 block of South May Street.  Three minutes later, Engine 129 reported they had a fire in the basement of a 30×125, 3.5-story ordinary, occupied apartment building.  At 1420hrs, Battalion 18 reported that he had heavy fire in the basement and 1st floor of the building and he called for a Still & Box which is about the same time the first picture shown in this gallery was taken.  The fire eventually made its way to the second floor.  Besides the apparatus shown in the photos, Engine 54 took a hydrant on Aberdeen Street which is one block to the east and stretched a line through the gangway to sector 3.  The box was struck at 1514hrs and the Red Cross was assisting 11 occupants who were displaced by this fire.
