No need to contact the dealer who sold the tires. These tires are expired and should’ve been replaced a long time ago. Sad to see the firefighters are at risk driving vehicles that aren’t legally roadworthy.

Have those in admin / union contacted the dealer who sold the tire(s)? A tire company this big should be able to tell you why this tire failed. Might help if that can be determined.

Harry what they are telling us is that they have 3 newer apparatus sitting in the firehouse and the fire chief is making them take this rig out of town. Yes tires can fail on new rigs too but this rig is 38 years old and doesn’t have the same safety systems the 3 newer ones do. All this is is a pissing match no more, no less.

well a tire can blow on a new rig it just means maybe that tire should have been replaced years ago and as for not using he new trucks I don’t think that has anything to do with this tires will dry rot if not used that goes for old and new rigs

Someone should take this to the media – posting on here won’t solve a damned thing. And what’s he going to do if you take the newer apparatus? Stand in front of it to stop you?

The department purchased the new apparatus for a reason, safety being one of those reasons, why not let them use the new safer apparatus! Otherwise what good is the new apparatus?

Lame excuse for not using front line rigs
Also look past the tread separation the tread depth and wear probably won’t pass IVC CODES

Not allowing your crews to respond to mutual aid (you may even get your own run en route or on the way back) in the frontline rigs but having them use reserves and old equipment is crap policy. Mutual aid implies just that mutual and just like you want their best when you need it, you need to give the same.
