I some how doubt this had anything to do with “the troops” I seriously can’t see them sitting around discussing calling it Squad 2

Bedford Park changed its apparatus numbering to simplify things for everyone, including dispatch and neighboring communities, making it easier to call or dispatch units. Previously, all apparatus had different numbers, and when spare apparatus were put into service, it created even more confusion. An officer suggested this change to address the issue, and so far, it’s been working well. The new numbering also aligns with the still district numbers used for structure responses. The mini pumper/squad, now designated Squad 72, is stationed at Station 2.

Ryan, Squad 708 is still housed at BP Station 3.
Wayne, correct Squad 2 will be the radio designation.

Ryan, recently I talked to a buddy at Bedford and he said the squad was at 3.

So will this be Squad 2 on the radio as well?

Keith, where did Squad 708 get assigned? I know it was at St 3 initially, but not sure if it got moved since the renumbering.

Bedford Park’s apparatus numbering came into fruitation after their new Chief started. He came from Schaumburg, which has two digit numbers correlating to the respective stations. Chief Johnson liked this system and instituted the change for Bedford Park. HAZMAT Squad 702 became Squad 71 because it is housed at their Station 1. Tower 709 became Tower 73 because it is housed at Station 3.
Burbank’s new Rosenbauer is replacing two apparatus, Squad 203 and Engine 207. The previous Chief, who retired, wanted to designate it as Engine 207. The designation was then changed to Squad 207 because it was decided to transfer over the extrication equipment to it. At the last minute, the number was changed again to “2.” Chief Kreil was approached by one of their lieutenants who presented the idea of calling this Squad 2, as the membership wanted this change because it instilled some pride and ownership in the new identity. So yes, the “troops” wanted it.
As was previously stated here, there are no plans of doing a divisionwide numbering change. The Chiefs in our Division have their own discretion on how they want their apparatus numbered.
For example, Evergreen Park’s engines are numbered as a tribute for companies that the CFD disbanded; 51, 61 & 77. North Palos and Chicago Ridge utilize the former 2nd Fire District numbering system, which was issued from SWCD. Roberts Park had a two digit numbering system, 31 & 32, and reverted back to their original 300 series numbers. Oak Lawn utilizes 1-3 retrospective their stations with 4 and 5 for reserves. Everyone else in our Division has some form of their original numbering.
On a side note, our new engine is going be numbered “411” as a tribute to a Ford/E-One pumper that we had from 1976-1997.

So they numbered it Squad 2, which it won’t be called because the “troops” wanted it. Makes sense.

Tim, Div 21 is close, Bedford Park has Squad 71 (former Squad 702) now since their renumbering in June.

Well let’s see, in Division 21, you now have Squad 1, Squad 2, and Squad 5. All they need now is a squad 7. Just sayin.

They should have numbered it squad 5 because you can’t have enough squad 5’s running around.

Negative on a Division renumbering change. It is what the troops wanted the Squad numbered.

That’s beautiful. Slightly darker red with black stripes add a nice touch.

I noticed that its just numbered as Squad 2, could MABAS 21 finally be making a switch to a standardized number system like Mabas 24?
