  As far as I remember, 23 had a stock tank, not 1000 gallons. All I know, it was scary to ride in the jump seat on the highway. Without the ladder, the ass end was light and bounced a torqued all over the place. If it had the extra water, I don’t imagine it would have been so light. Almost all that district was hydrants, so water wasn’t an issue, but I’ll tell you. 10-15 minutes is a long time to wait for the second in companies.

  Crabby that a normal spot on those. The bumper has the supply line on it so the siren is just moved over. Hoffman also had another converted engine. They had an ALF that had an aerial on it and the ladder failed, so they removed the ladder and put a 1,000 gallon tank on it and that became engine 23 when the house opened on the north side of town. Most of the engines only had 500 gallons, but since engine 23 was in no man’s land they made it a 1,000 gallon tank so they had time without worrying about water. They named that Alf Woody and there are some pictures floating around of it.

  Another beautiful classic ALF. A bit unusual siren mounting but perhaps there are others like that.
