I think black rims look pretty good. Perhaps they want to blend in with Tosa and West Allis who knows. Now that aluminum wheels can be ordered as painted rather than the traditional chrome, it’s like less costly to paint them if in fact these are aluminum. Of course steel is even less costly and MPG doesn’t make much difference for a fire apparatus anyway.

What’s up with the black rims? Is it a safety thing or personal choice. I don’t remember the shop being proactive to choice. It was always don’t fix until it’s broken. I do know that they got a new boss a while back who was young and very knowledgeable about his trade. Which could make the shop prone to new and fresh ideas.

Well one of the officials at that plant made a passing reference to the idea that so many people throw lithium batteries either in the recycle or standard garbage bins so that could be the cause. Don’t know for sure if that’s what happened this time but given how fast and intense these BEV’s burn, you can’t rule that out.

Seems that there are so many fires at recycling plants across the country.

I could see the smoke just as I started coming down the I-94 hill that day.
