From Glenview Prof. Firefighters Assoc. IAFF Local 4186 on Facebook:
Station 13 has been slated for closure! Due to a recent village board decision, your fire department is scheduled to reduce service through the elimination of an engine company.
This will primarily affect the East Side, but all of Glenview, the Glenbrook Fire Protection District, and the Village of Golf will be impacted in many ways.

maybe they should stop giving hundreds of thousands of dollars in end of the year bonus money to all the higher ups in the village and they would have enough money to keep the fire station open. oh wait its not a money issue though….

I wonder what would happen to the lower seniority 3 Lt’s and 3 D/E positions. Would they keep their rank and pay or get bumped down a position?

While it is true Mt Prospect Sta 14 is only 1 mile from the far NW corner of Glenview, it is over 6 miles west of Eng 13’s still. Wilmette Sta 27 is 2.5 miles east and Northfield Sta 29 is 2 miles north. Whatever. The village was poorly protected before this decision. Prior to The Glen being built on the former Glenview NAS property and adding 26,000 residents to the village, Sta 6 (GLVW) and Sta’s 7 & 8 (Glenbrook) ran 3 engines, 1 truck, 1 snorkel and 3 ambos out of 3 stations for 1/2 the population. Suppression wise, they still run 5 rigs and only added ambulances. So, they run the same level of service when they only had 30,000 residents compared to the 57,000 plus they have now. Awesome! Both sets of grandparents lived in Glenview all of their adult life and utilized the FD on several occasions including reviving my grandmother from full cardiac arrest. I could only imagine what will appen when the same happens now in 13’s still. Good luck!

Is Engine 13 the only vehicle at station 13?

In the report they mention Mount Prospect station 14 as a possible partner to respond into Glenview under a Auto Aid Agreement. They claim station 14 is only a mile from Glenview City limits. Perhaps Mount Prospect could take some calls in the area of Glenview closest to their station.
It still does not make any sense from a Public Safety point of view to close station 13. Even though the report claims they are underutilized each 24 hour shift.

The residents or firefighters need to file a FOIA and obtain some information on this. Something smells like fish. This sounds like a situation of politics, not what’s best for the community.

Michael m,
You bring up a great point! This is not “bad advice,” but rather the advice they wanted to hear. Who is paying the consulting firm? I don’t need to say much more! I give a lot of credit to the GFD personnel who spoke in public comment, they were articulate in getting their points across. Unfortunately, they spoke upon deaf ears. The decision was made prior to their meeting. Closing Station 13 makes no sense and is complete smoke and mirrors. Every resident east of Waukegan Road between Winnetka Avenue and Glenview Road should demand answers and question why the Fire Chief thinks this is acceptable. Unfortunately, the residents need to be better educated on the importance of the necessity for adequate fire protection in their community. I am truly questioning the boards direction in this decision. They have now put their residents safety in question for no good reason. I hope nothing happens in the areas I mentioned above, because if something does, every member on that board should be held accountable as well as the fire chief!

Here’s hoping the first house that burns to the ground after they close it belongs to a village board member.

Since it does not appear to be a financial issue, the village is possibly getting bad advice from a consulting firm. Who specifically on the Glenview Village board can Citizens write to to try to save Station 13?
