They need more cooling and bigger radiators now because of the emission system/after treatment system. Makes the engine run way hotter.

The earlier Pierce Arrows had the engines mounted between the jumpseats. I think the radiator was mounted in front of the engine and most likely drew air from under the truck / through the wheelwell areas. The original Dash had a performated trim/grill just above the bumper and below the trim.

RJ. Just a guess in that engines back then didn’t need quite as much cooling as they do now with much more HP and torque. Just my 2.75 cents worth.

Where were the radiators on the old Pierce arrows/dash’s with no front grills? I drove a couple in the early 2000’s, probably built in the early 90’s, and don’t remember having any overheating problems.

Ok thanks. I never saw too many without the grill. I guess 10 years is a good production run all things considered.

Crabby,
Merrionette Park and Racine, WI trucks are the only ones in the area that I know of without the grill. I wonder how Skokie and Niles Dash CF’s are holding up?

You think they would have known better to not provide enough engine cooling. HEHE perhaps they hired some FORD engineers given all of their problems but I digress.
Certainly an unique and attractive chassis and I wonder how many they sold with the fake grill omitted?

The radiator is mounted in the top front of the body behind the cab. This is why limited pumper or aerial configurations were offered with the Dash CF versus the Velocity or Arrow XT.

My guess it had the cooling issues because the engine is further back and does not get the air when the engine is driving down the street.

That sounds like quite a substantial engineering problem. I hope those who have purchased them have good luck with their Dash CF’s.

I asked the same question on a previous post on this rig and this is the response I received: “it’s true – they had cooling issues with it and it’s gone.”

I heard the Dash CF was discontinued. I’m surprised since they’ve only built this chassis for a short time. Perhaps they didn’t sell enough to keep production going or was there a different reason?
