A request for assistance …

Hi,

My name is Michael Byerline. I snapped this picture while on a recent trip to Chicago on December 20th and I’m trying to get it to the wonderful woman who’s in it. I feel like she’d really enjoy having this. Based on the captain’s helmet in the background I’m thinking she’s a part of engine 113? Her helmet says Ambulance 2, I’m not sure if that’s run out of the same facility or not. If you know of anyone I can contact to try to get this picture to her that’d be amazing. Thank you very much!
Best,

Manteno Fire Protection District news

Excerpts from abc7chicago.com:

A 58-year-old worker who fell into a Kankakee County grain bin has died. The accident occurred Wednesday just before noon at the Whitaker grain elevator near Manteno.  Chester Cleveland, who worked for Whitaker Grain for 40 years, was working to clean out the grain bin when he fell in. Manteno Fire Chief Scott O’Brien said Cleveland fell between 70-75 feet down the bin. The fire district received a call of a person in the grain bin at around 11:15 a.m. When crews arrived, two people were found inside the grain bin. The second employee fell in while trying to assist. Firefighters were able to retrieve the second employee.

Rescue crews were on the scene all afternoon.

This from Mike Summa for #TBT:

For TBT-The company that changed the American fire service. For years the most recognized fire apparatus.  Its demise will be debated for years.  Here are some samples from a late 1970’s catalog.  Enjoy.
