Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:
Evanston firefighters responded about 6:49 a.m. Monday to a single-family home in the 1100 block of South Boulevard and found heavy smoke and moderate fire conditions in the front of the building. Firefighters entered the home and put out the fire within 30 minutes. Three firefighters suffered minor injuries. Investigators say the fire was caused by candles used for Christmas decorations.

Lockport firefighters responded about 1:50 a.m. Monday to 1139 E. Ninth St. for a reported structure fire. Lockport Animal Hospital used to occupy the building, but the facility is currently being used for its records storage only. When crews arrived, they found heavy fire coming from the small building’s attic. Downed power lines in the immediate area made it difficult to access all sides of the building.
Personnel remained on the scene for several hours, and one firefighter injured his hand. The fire’s cause remained under investigation Monday.
