I did not. The rigs were all inside anyway and since I had a low cost camera, they wouldn’t have turned out.
One of my pet projects that I never seem to get around to is to transfer all of my pictures pre digital to my PC file.
We know how that goes.

Crabby,
Did you by chance take pics. on your visit? I know they will be getting a new Rescue 6 shortly (if not already).

What was Rescue 6 back then?

That’s the original 6-5-5, a 1965 Yankee-Walter that was in service at O’Hare Field for 15 years (1965-80). This rig was in front-line service at all three O’Hare crash stations at various points in time.
Yankee-Walter was based in L. A. and was the #1 manufacturer of airport crash trucks in the 1960’s.
There were a total of three Yankee-Walter crash trucks in service with the CFD in the 1960’s and 70’s. Besides 6-5-5 (pictured above), there was also 6-5-2 at O’Hare Field (a 1969 Yankee-Walter that was demolished in a roll-over crash at O’Hare Field in 1972) and 6-5-9 at Midway Airport 1973-1981 (a 1963 Yankee-Walter purchased “used” from the Cincinnati F. D. in 1973).

Crash trucks always amaze me.
Me and my late grandpa were treated to a behind the scenes tour at Milwaukee’s Mitchell airport back in 1984 and part of the tour included a stop at the fire station. Great memories to a 19 year old seeing this but to spend a quality day with my grandpa was even more special.
Thanks for posting that.
