They are supposed to be replaced by then end of next year. A21 should be going in service soon.

Thanks for the information Engine 37. Did they order the rigs yet or are they about to submit an order? As Evanston is one of a few suburbs that consistently orders it’s heavy apparatus from Pierce I was wondering if they have a long term contract with them or whether Pierce is the only company that is able to meet their apparatus specifications? They are pretty lucky to be able to order 2 new Engines in one year to able to keep up with that ambitious apparatus replacement schedule.

As of today Ambulance 21 is still using the International. According to what I understand, Ambulance 21 is using a 2010 International, Ambulance 22 is using a 2012 International, and jump/Ambulance 23 is using a 2005 International. There is a also a reserve 2005 International that was at Station 22.
The two oldest frontline engines are 22 and 24 running with 2003 Pierces. A question is how long are they going to be kept in frontline service? If they use them for 20 years like they did with the trucks and some of the previous engines, then they won’t be replaced until 2023. If they decide to replace them after 15 years they’ll be replaced about two years from now. Of course they can also choose to keep running them for 17 or 18 years.

How old are the previous Ambulances? Are they going to replace any other Ambulance?

Nice shots Niko! I am surprised as well that Evanston went with a Ford chassis, I second Bill’s comment about Evanston usually does not skimp on apparatus considering they bought a brand new Pierce tiller last year!

Niko, thanks for sending in both photos as a comparison. I wonder what the reason for changing the type of ambulance chassis is? Is it the price? Evanston has been using the International medium-duty cab and chassis for quite a while and I can’t help but wonder why they are changing? The International cabs are roomier. This almost appears to be a step down.
When it comes to fire apparatus, Evanston hasn’t been skimpy or cheap if you consider that all of their engines and trucks are from Pierce.

The main was reason was to be able to move around the streets easier. Another reason was to get passengers (usually family members) into the front seat easier (like the elderly) when a transport is being done. This is the only one for now being replaced. Evanston only runs 2 front-line ambulances and 1 jump company as a third. Up next in the coming years are Engine’s 22 and 24.
