This from Karl Klotz:
Here are some (cell phone) photos from the Fire Service Inc. open house on a cloudy September 9th in St. John Indiana.
Homer Twp will be taking delivery soon of the new Engine 32. University Park will be taking delivery of the new E-ONE engine with a 2nd E-ONE engine still in production. There were a few other demo rigs on display as well as the old Lincolnwood Truck 15

How long has the old Lincolnwood truck been there?

No University Park vehicles are being traded in. This first engine was purchased by the village and the second was an AFG grant award. Currently station 1 runs the 1989 E-One Cyclone as E-76 (not purchased for PFS, the name changed in 1984) and the 2011 E-One Cyclone II 100′ tower ladder as Truck 85.
Station 2 has the ex-Beecher Engine. It is a 1983 Spartan/FMC that has a Pierce refurbish around 2000. It runs as E-77. The 2000 American LaFrance 75′ Quint, Truck 75, has been OOS for over a year. It is currently parked at station 2, stripped and listed for sale on Brindlee Mountain with a deposit for purchase right now.
Each station has one twin ambulance, 2010 International/Medtec.
The first engine will place E77 in reserve and front line at station 1, moving E76 to station 2. The second engine will go directly to station 2 and move E76 to reserve, at that point E77 will be disposed of probably through donation.
Both new engines are production models that are undergoing changes and additions.

I don’t have much information on the University Park rigs. From what the sales rep told me (at least how I understood it was) the rig that is in the photo was already made and probably going to be a demo and UP purchased it. They have another one in production now (due at the end of this year). I’m not sure if it was spec’d by UP or if it was already in production and they purchased that one too. Currently they have the former Beecher rig and the older E-One that is lime yellow with the white and black roof, I think it’s the last remaining rig from when it was Park Forest South FD.

Looks like it is missing two parts of the aerial.

UP traded in 2 1970’s era engines, an American and Hendrickson/FMC, along with a 1970’s Hendrickson/LTI/American tower ladder when they purchased the current E-One tower.

I also see the former Elmhurst Truck 2 as well. Who is the E-max pumper going to? That is a interesting looking pumper.

What will UP get rid of and what did they sell of a few years ago?

Yes what’s going on with Truck 38 and when are they getting the rig back?

What happened to CFD truck 38 from the northside?

Karl nice pictures. I heard Highland, IN bought an E-One Stainless Steel Heavy Rescue. Was there any sightings of that truck at the Fire Service Openhouse?

Rusty,
I saw it driving down 41 when I was leaving. I didn’t have time to shoot it but it looked like a nice Squad.

Thanks Karl for posting the pics! Awesome news for University Park on getting 2 new well needed engines, but hopefully they don’t trade everything in again like they did a few years ago when the new tower ladder was received.

I take it that those new ones are stock and not specially built? In other words, you need one in short order and then just go buy it if it meets requirements? Or are they actually specially built and they feel a need to put a sold sign on them?
