This from Larry Shapiro:
Passing through O’Hare the other morning, the sun was perfect for photos on the apron of Rescue 3 and I was able to get shots of most of the apparatus there.

Correction. The former 278 is now numbered 273.

That’s an interesting idea for a roster Doug however I believe that one of the reasons why Squad 7 is at Station 3 is that the current Squad 7A (the mini pumper) can be used for fires in the multi-level parking lot. Squad 7 also has better access to the expressways. Apparently Station 1 has a space problem which is probably why 278 is at Station 3.
When Station 1 is enlarged (in my opinion) it would make more sense to have Engines 9 and 12 exchange rigs. Engine 12 is more maneuverable for the traffic areas around the terminals where there can be auto fires. The current Engine 9 has a much longer wheelbase, about the length of an ARFF. So it would be smarter to have Engine 9’s rig out in the field near the runways and the cargo area and Engine 12’s rig at Station 3.

honestly i believe 2-7-8 and Squad 7 should be in Station 1’s house beceause Station 3 is really full and the new roster should be

O’Hare Rescue Station # 2. Engine 10*, Ambulance 16*, 6-3-5 (Portable Stairway Unit), 6-5-4 (ARFF Crash Unit), 6-5-5 (ARFF Crash Unit), 6-5-6 (ARFF Crash Unit)
O’Hare Rescue Station#1 Engine 12*, Tower Ladder 63*, Ambulance 26*, Squad 7 (Heavy Rescue), Squad 7A (Mini-Pumper), 2-7-3 (Airport Command Van), 5-1-2 (Haz-Mat. Unit 2), 6-5-7 (ARFF Crash Unit), 6-5-8 (ARFF Crash Unit), 6-5-10 (ARFF Crash Unit),

I would like to point out that the city currently has (believe it or not) plans to further enlarge Rescue Station 1 (south end of the airport) and to build a new Station 2 due to a new runway which will be going up near Station 2’s current location. Even though Station 1 is the largest station on the field and in fact is really like 2 stations in one building as there two separate apparatus floors (on the east and the west ends of the station) the station is apparently not large enough for O’Hare Field’s needs. I understand that the apparatus bays are already crowded there.

9 and 7 look great. Nice that you were there when they had those parked outside.
