Aiden that’s a good question. I haven’t heard anything about Skokie Truck 18 being refurbished however several months ago I also saw Truck 18 using the spare. I have a feeling that they may be having some maintenance issues with the truck as I really don’t see them refurbishing all of that equipment in the same year. They just got Engine 18 back and are supposed to be repainting Squad 18. They are supposed to be receiving a new Tower Ladder 16 shortly and next year they will be getting a new Rescue 17. I understand that they’ve already worked on the specs for it but I don’t have any more details. I wonder if the new Rescue 17 will have a long wheelbase body like the current one or if it will be shorter? The current Squad 18 is somewhat shorter than the spare squad (Spartan Luverne). Rescue 17 is really a 4th engine company with some squad and truck equipment and it used to be an ALS Engine before Ambulance 17 was put in service with the new Station 17. How many suburbs can claim to have a double engine station?

I passed Skokie FD Station 18 and I noticed that squad 18 was using the spare squad and truck 18 was using the spare truck as well. The original truck must be out for a new paint job. Is the original truck 18 currently being refurbished?

Thanks for the information. So I would imagine that Skokie must be running with the Spare Squad now correct? So I understand that the new Chief is a long time veteran Skokie Firefighter which sounds pretty good. Aside from the change of the color scheme it seems that Skokie will most likely maintain it’s other traditions which is pretty good. Aside from the Class 1 ISO rating compared to other Chicago area fire departments they look pretty good. Considering that each station runs with a minimum of 2 manned frontline companies and that doesn’t even include the 3 ambulances. Also considering that they run both a Squad company and a pumper with some Squad and Truck equipment as well as the Tower Ladder is also pretty fortunate.

New Chief, new colors. As of now Squad 18 is out for repaint, the new Tower Ladder will be in the new colors, and the new Ambulance 18 will most likely be in the new colors.

I wonder if they plan to repainting all of the rigs or if they will just get the new rigs in the new color scheme. I have seen Skokie’s color scheme change over the years and in my opinion the best looking one is the red and white scheme that they have been using such as the one that the New Engine 17 was delivered in only about 3 years ago. The red and white scheme is also more visible and eye catching. This seem to be a case of change for the sake of change. I have my doubts if they are really saving much if any money with it? Who knows?
