Excerpts from NBCChicago.com:
Second City reopened their Mainstage Theater on Thursday after a three-alarm fire destroyed its offices last month (8/26/15). The first performance was a private show for the Chicago Fire Department.
Tyler Alexander of Second City said the show was meant to pay back something for all their amazing efforts. Four firefighters and at least one other person suffered injuries from the thick black smoke that billowed near Wells Street and North Avenue, the fire department has said. The fire started at a restaurant next door, but flames quickly traveled upwards through the restaurant’s vents.
The theaters remained in good condition following the blaze, but carpet, wiring and lighting had to be replaced.
The theater company previosly said there would be no shows until Sunday. They will continue with their regular performance schedule through the weekend.
