Nice to see those guys getting a nice new rig. Plus getting a true quint is the smart thing to do if you’re not Chicago and don’t have 15 engine companies surrounding you. Congrats to them.

The old 1998 Pierce tower had problems, electrical and structural. It was to be traded in on the new one. Pierce bid on the new tower but would not give a solid price on the amount that would have been given on the credit for the trade in. Since they couldn’t commit to a $ a stock Smeal tower was bought. Its had its share of problems too.

How did Pierce jerk them around?

The only reason DG bought a Smeal is because Pierce jerked them around. Its not all that great.

Smeal makes good ladders. Downers Grove and Tri-States are outstanding. River Forest just bought a Smeal Demo 100′ Heavy Duty Quint. I think its 750 tip load too.
