A private residence is still better than either tearing it down or turning into a landmark and then have it generate nothing in terms of revenue.
Sure it’s sad to see an empty fire station or house as some prefer but it’s better than just letting it get ugly over time from neglect.

what a memory ! i lived a block away as a kid. used to watch engine 128 pull out and go by. made my first ride on a cfd rig from there, (it was not on 128, though, a very long story ) !
e-128 mack was swapped with e-112 pirsch, to use as a squad rig, pumps were better on the mack. the flying squads at first ran with pumpers and carried a bed of hose, like the fdny squads do today.
later was detailed to fms 6 a few times, great days !

It was Engine 128’s old station. Battalion 20 was also located there. When Engine 128 was taken out of service on September 16th 1969 Battalion 20 was relocated to Engine 83 and Truck 22’s new station a little over a mile east and Flying Manpower Squad 6 was put in service in their place.
Ambulance 32 was also put in service there as a new
Model Cities ambulance equipped with a Red and White Ford Econoline Van on July 7th 1970.
The ambulance was relocated to Engine 124’s house on May 26th 1972 and Flying Squad 6 was relocated to Engine 110 in June of the same year and it was closed as a fire house but was converted to the north side fire prevention bureau office.
When Flying Squad 6 was there they were using old pumpers as the famous Mack/Platt Flying Squad (box style) Trucks weren’t put in service until 1973.
