This from Josh Boyajian:
Bensenville had a full still today at 202 s Mason. Engine 18 had heavy smoke showing O/A from the attic. Battalion 17 requested a full still which brought rigs from surrounding departments including Carol Stream D/C 28. I arrived well into the fire. Here are some of my pictures.

FFPM571: If your comment about the 3″ vs. 5″ was sarcastic I get it. If it wasn’t then others should note that a single 3-inch line can carry a maximum of 600 GPM at which time the friction loss red lines at 31 PSI per 100 feet. When a 5-inch line red lines it will be able to carry 2300 GPM per 100 feet. More practically, a 700-foot lay (about one city block) pumped with two 3-inch lines will require a pump discharge pressure of about 250 PSI to deliver 1000 GPM. For a similar lay of 5-inch the PDP would only need to be 65 PSI and then the PDP could then be raised to 200 PSI delivering about 2000 GPM, which most 1500 GPM pumpers working from a hydrant should have no problem accomplishing.

Mike Mc, Bensenville only gets Chicago squad 7 on box alarms and box 300 for target hazards. This fire was a full still.

Pretty sure any department would welcome Chief Hoff’s knowledge and experience on their fireground anytime….

Were CFD companies Squad 7 and Battalion 8 there as the RIT? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Elmhurst carries 3 inch supply, and grumpy grizzle, Bensenville gets about half the towns you named off already. Maybe you should review their box cards before you give your opinion.

Dont ya know.. 2 3″ is better than one 5″ LDH?

Towns that don’t have LDH, and still use 3″ as supply line on their engines are…Elmhurst, Oakbrook Terrace, Addison?, Maywood, and I believe Broadview.

It looks like Elmhurst was there, Engine 1 in one picture and the pink striping on the turnout gear. Could be someone else though…

B’Ville has had LDH for a long time. When I worked there in the early 90’s we had it on the engines. The dual 3″ are going to another towns rig.

Really long run for Carol Stream, how about WoodDale, Itsaca, Elmhurst, Addison, EG Village, a whole lot closer
