Eric, as cool as that would be. CFD wouldn’t go International until a bid is made and International bids lower. I like international trucks over all and i would really love to see a workstar in CFD colors. A Terrastar Ambulance in fact would be nice as you see out East they’ve become more poplar than out here. From what I heard CFD is getting New Ford F-450s. New ones and also getting rechassis. Not going to say it is 100% true but that’s what I heard and I’m going off of what they already have. If we got some Terrastars in the fleet, it would be really cool.

Crap. You’re right Dennis. I remember seeing the LED lights on the spare rig. Il be quiet now.
#3 by Dennis on January 29, 2013 - 7:43 PM
Bob, Squad 5 was NOT in their assigned rigs that night. They were w/o the snorkel. They had the spare squad (X-Eng. 23’s ALF). The turret rigs are not getting rebuilt anytime soon. 6-7-1 is slated for the Fire Museum of Greater Chicago. But hey nothing happenes till it happenes.

But as a true Cfd member, rumor is to rebuild the turrets on an international workstar chassis. Also rumor is the new ambo will be built on the terra star chassis

The false was directed towards someone when he said they were waiting at the shops for another rig. Because that night they were in both their marked regular apparatus. Not a big deal.
#6 by Dennis on January 29, 2013 - 12:58 PM
ok so then what was the “False” about? When you say they went down to the 5-11, they didn’t go down to the 5-11, they went for fuel at Irons. I know it’s near there, I have gotten fuel there before. I also passed them turning into the fuel depot when we were coming around to 39th from 38th st.

Dennis, never once did I say they responded to the 5-11. Once they picked up from Mozart, they took a ride, in service, down to the 5-11. Just so happens Iron Street is right there.

Tom, CFD did NOT use the suburbs. CFD relocates their own companies as they do for all extra alarms. The reserve Snorkel is kept with Eng 35 (Trk 28).
#9 by Tom on January 28, 2013 - 5:38 PM
What did CFD do for station coverage when the 5-11 was called for. Did CFD call in the suburbs?
Also is the reserve snorkel the one marked snorkel 1 that is a Segrave and kept at the shops

Ok Bob…….Squad 5 DID NOT respond to the 5-11, because it was north of 39th St ( the divide line for squad 1 and 5) they left the Still & Box on Mozart and went to Irons St. for fuel then responded to the Still in the high-rise at 49th and King Dr. (someone smelled smoke from the fire on Ashland) also Sqd 5 WAS OOS that morning (both rigs had to be towed to North Ave.) because of bad fuel.

False. When Squad 5 picked up from the S&B at 66th and Mozart, they drove down to the 5-11 in service. I know this because as we were pulling up on the 3-11 Squad 5 was responding to a Still in a high-rise cruising eastbound down 39th St. From the 5-11.

How can both peices of squad 5 be down simotaneously??
#13 by Steve on January 27, 2013 - 4:13 PM
Both of squad 5’s apparatus were broke down and had to be towed out of quarters the day of the 5-11 and were at the shops for most of the day waiting for another rig.

Bill- Just before this alarm came in there was a still and box in the 7000 blk of south Mozart for a house fire with entrapment. It turned out to be a small fire that was struck out before all the box companies got in, but I think that was enough to make the difference between the office sending 5-5-1 vs. 5-5-5.

I have a good question. What happened to Squad 5? Not only is Squad 5 much closer to the fire (less then 3 miles down Ashland avenue) but even if Squad 1 were to take the expressways, Squad 5 would beat them in. Perhaps Squad 5 was on another run? I certainly hope that Pershing Road is no longer the boundary line between Squad 5 and Squad 1, as at one time it was the boundary between the squads however I would think that it would no longer be the case.

DMc77, thanks for the correction on Truck 8’s response. it seemed odd to see them on both alarms.
#17 by DMc77 on January 27, 2013 - 1:46 PM
Truck 8 (still truck) should be listed as Truck 18 on the 2-11

How many 5-11s do you see in a lifetime? My dad took me to my first at Gee Lumber on 79th st.

Both Hose wagons and both turret wagons! It’s rare you get 1 called out. And pulling 6-7-1 out of semi-retirement the next day.

The change of quarters had to be an absolute disaster.
