Tim Olk visited the Gurnee Fire Department and submitted images of the new Engine 1312 (not yet in service) and Ambulance 1344 (in service). Both units will be at Station 2. The arrival of these units meant some shifting of apparatus:
- the previous Ambulance 1344, a 2000 IHC/2001 Road Rescue has been disposed of
- the previous Engine 1312, a 1995 E-ONE fixed cab Cyclone 1500/750 has been disposed of
- with the addition of the new command car 1396, the previous unit 1396, a 2000 Ford Expedition will be disposed of
- Ambulance 1343 will relocate to Station 1 where it will be first out
- Ambulance 1341 will be the second ambulance out of station 1 and 1342 will be unmanned
- command car 1392 will become a staff car at station 1

With the new engine delivery, all of Gurnee’s engines are “rescue engines.” (extrication, generators etc) Assuming they respond from quarters, they do take reserve engines on auto-aid and box alarms, only so they don’t sit for long periods without being driven. The running order Bill described above was a past practice, but not for the last 15ish years.

Gurnee has an interesting fire department. Each station has both a standard pumper and a Rescue/Pumper assigned to it. I believe that the on duty crews probably switch between the 2 engines, depending on the type of incident they are responding to.

Just out of curiosity, why are the lights different between the pics of the new 1312? One of them has blue lights and the other has gray covers in the same location.
