Captain Steve Lusted of the Batavia Fire Department submitted the following:
Since you posted an old Fire Engineering photo, I thought you might be interested in this advertisement from Nov 1949.
Originally BFD Engine 3, a 1948 American LaFrance 1000-gpm, the unit is now housed at the Aurora Fire Museum.

I have many fire engineering magazines from the 1950s. Does anyone know what they are worth and perhaps a buyer.

The Geneva Bottling Works ALF was red and it was the deepest red (not as burgandy as Urbana). The MP rig I trained on back in 77-79 and it had been modified with high side cabinets and the white over yellow scheme MP used for years.

As one of the 4th generation owners of Aluminum Ladder Company, I take great pride in seeing old advertising pieces like this. Thank you for sharing.

Drew is it painted white over yellow? If it is then it is the x-Mt.Prospect ALFCO. The reason the pump panels were on the officer’s side in the early days, was to make it easier to hook the hard sleeve to the hydrants. No front intakes on the early ALF’s.

Hi Drew.
I believe Geneva Bottling Works had the old GFD LaFrance.

It is interesting to note that all of these ALFs from the late 1940s (not sure if it was only 1948) have the pump panel controls on the curb side. Mount Prospect had one of these in serive until at least 1979.
Chip,
Is this by any chance the same pumper that Geneva Bottling Works had for a while?
