The Illinois Fire Chiefs Association recommends the Orland Fire Protection District hire six new firefighter in 2012, not the 11 originally requested.
In April, former Fire Chief Bryant Krizik asked for 11 new firefighters to offset overtime costs. The board approved it and 11 firefighters accepted conditional offers of employment. But when a new board took over in May, the hires were put on hold.
Board President James Hickey and fellow new board members Blair Rhode and Chris Evoy sought an independent study by the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, which released its findings in a 57-page report Tuesday. The recommended six hires is also what acting chief Raymond Kay requested in August.
