Former Riverside Fire Chief sues Village

An article HERE on mysuburbanlife.com states that:

Former Riverside Fire Chief Kevin Mulligan has filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against the village and Fire Capt. Matthew Buckley, who Mulligan alleges mounted a campaign to oust him beginning in 2008 on the grounds that the chief was intoxicated several times while on duty.

Mulligan, a 22-year veteran of the fire department, was named chief in 2006. He was terminated by telephone the day after the March 28 Village Board meeting.

Mulligan was replaced as chief by Spencer Kimura in August.

Panel presents hiring study to Orland Fire

From the Chicago Tribune:

The Illinois Fire Chiefs Association recommends the Orland Fire Protection District hire six new firefighter in 2012, not the 11 originally requested.

In April, former Fire Chief Bryant Krizik asked for 11 new firefighters to offset overtime costs. The board approved it and 11 firefighters accepted conditional offers of employment. But when a new board took over in May, the hires were put on hold.

Board President James Hickey and fellow new board members Blair Rhode and Chris Evoy sought an independent study by the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, which released its findings in a 57-page report Tuesday. The recommended six hires is also what acting chief Raymond Kay requested in August.

Meet the historians

This from Bill Friedrich

The radio station that the great Chicago Historian program was on, changed their format and is no longer available for this programming. John Divita, past president of the 5-11 Club, says that the Chicago Historians are back, better than ever, direct from the new Chicago Fire Museum! This includes Ken Little and several other former CFD fire alarm operators, and members from both the CFD and CPD. The programs feature audio only at this time and are well worth listening too. Readers should go to Youtube.com and enter Meet the Chicago Historians. They will find a nine-part series, the first of which is from October 10th of this year.

Enjoy and Merry Christmas to all

Bill Friedrich
