Michael, one of the best things you can do is continue your education, fire science at a junior college for instance. Many, if not most suburban departments now require at least a two year degree before you can be hired. You also may want to check out a department that has a volunteer or paid on call program as a start. This is another good way to get your foot in the door. There is a lot of competition for FD jobs theses days. The more you have to offer the bigger the leg up you get…

Where can I find an application for employment with the Ohare fire department or any other fire departments who operate in the area or on base of the ohare airport. I am just starting out in the field, but am looking to begin my journey in a career with a fire department. Thank you in advance for any good input that you may be able to give me or lead me to one of these departments so that I can fill out an application that may be accepting applications for part time, paid on call or full time employment. I am CPAT,CPR AED,EMT-B state certified,High School graduate, 28 year old male from the western suburbs.

What kind of HazMat units? Decon rigs or squad style rigs?

Division 11’s haz mat unit is on the way and may/may not be delivered by the end of the year. If not, it should be here right after new year.
