In an effort to prevent house fires and keep families safe, the Lake County Fire Chiefs Association held its annual Lake County Fire Safety Expo at Gurnee Mills on Saturday.

Nearly 20 Lake County fire departments were on hand to teach children and families the basics of fire safety and prevention.

Area fire departments hold open houses

Several area fire departments hosted open houses with fire safety demonstrations, exhibits, apparatus, activities, food, and more for families during the past month. Here are images representing Mundelein, Long Grove, Lake Zurich, Cary, Buffalo Grove, and the Moraine Valley Fire College.

Here are some photos the Mundelein Fire Dept open house, they also have received a new ambulance it is a 2012 Ford Medtec replacing old ambulance 432. Also here are some shots an extrication and their antique engine.

Buffalo Grove Fire Department Open House

The Buffalo Grove Fire Department held their open house on Saturday. Although the event was well attended, the weather played a role in keeping some families away in addition to grounding the Flight For Life helicopter which was unable to visit. Those that did attend had plenty to keep them busy and well fed.

Larry Shapiro attended the event and submitted several images depicting the junior combat challenge, static displays, vehicle extrication demos, a puppet show, hands-on use of a fire extinghuisher, Pink Heals Tour fire engine, below grade tripod rescue scenario, and multiple photo ops for the kids.
