This from Steve Redick:
This last Wednesday I attended the major fire in a condo complex that destroyed 3 full buildings and part of a 4th in Prospect Heights. 96 Units were damaged or destroyed leaving many homeless. The fire began in a second floor unit in a very remote section of the complex and penetrated the mansard style roof and cockloft/ attic space. Tremendous efforts were made in the form of multiple trench cuts and opening the mansard in several places as well as a great deal of interior operations. In the end several master streams were also utilized. It has been said this is the largest MABAS response in the area since the Arlington Park Racetrack fire many years ago. Enclosed are a few images from the 4 hours I was there observing. All the images can be seen here on my website.I am also enclosing an aerial view of the complex.Steve

Sebastian to my understanding the two new rigs put in service a little over a year ago were assigned to Engine 26 and Quint 27. The rig marked for Quint 27 (237) at the fire in Prospect Heights is a reserve rig. I assume that it was running as Quint 27 on that day but I don’t know for sure.
As I am not from Buffalo Grove I also have questions. Information that I had is several years old and may not be good any more. As of a few years ago I know that Buffalo Grove had two reserve engines and one reserve tower ladder with one unit at each station. The heavy duty squad was at Station 26 which is also the headquarters however the squad was either a jump company or most likely staffed by off-duty call-back personnel. Station 25 on Dundee Road had Tower Ladder 25, the reserve tower ladder, an ambulance, and Squad 25, a small utility unit that took EMS runs instead of the tower if there was enough on-duty staff. I don’t know how often there was staffing to run with Squad 25. All 3 stations had an ambulance however I don’t know if the ambulance at Station 27 was a jump company. The tower ladder at Station 25 is a quint. There was no engine there however Station 25 is on the north border of Arlington Heights. Arlington Heights Engine 4 is just over a mile northwest of Buffalo Grove Station 25 and runs on automatic aid into Buffalo Grove with Tower Ladder 25. Tower Ladder 25 also runs automatic aid into Arlington Heights. There are areas where Tower 25 can beat Arlington Heights Engine 4 in Arlington Heights and Engine 4 can beat Buffalo Grove Engine 26 into most of the south end of Buffalo Grove. I assume that the Ferrara engine that was Engine 26 is now a reserve piere however I don’t know for certain. It is a 2010 and is still pretty new. It wasn’t more then 6 years old when the new E/One engine replaced it in late 2016.
I am sure that there are several people on this website who have more accurate and up to date information on Buffalo Grove.

i am confused as too how Buffalo Grove runs their rigs.. is the 2010 ferrara engine now the reserve? and is the kme quint still front line or is it reserve status?? didn’t they just get two new rigs last year??
Thanks,
