Leaf River Fire Department news

Excerpts from wrex.com:

Fire departments in the Stateline are keeping fallen Sun Prairie Firefighter Cory Barr in their thoughts, some even raising money to help Barr’s family, after the tragedy. Last Saturday, the Leaf River Fire Department hosted a ‘Fill the Boot’ to help raise money to give to wife and two twin girls.

Leaf River Fire lost one of their own, 19-year-old Gregory Wood, in a house fire back in November.  Fire officials say this fundraiser shows all firefighters, no matter where they work, stand together during tough times.

“We’re all just a brotherhood,” Leaf River firefighter Dalton Blatter said. “I mean, there’s not any other way to kind of say that. No matter what happens, we all have each other’s backs and that’s the way that it is around here.”

Leaf River Fire says it plans to deliver the money raised this weekend to Sun Prairie in the near future.

2-Alarm fire in Wadsworth, 7-17-18 (more)

Excerpts from the telegraph.com:

An estimated $3 million in fire and water damage following a fire at a pyramid home may force the owners to knock the tourist attraction down. If the Gold Pyramid House’s owners decide to demolish, they will replace the structure in Wadsworth with a bigger and better pyramid.

The owners have determined the water damage from firefighting efforts Tuesday was too extensive, but that the fire damage is limited to a couple of rooms.

The Gold Pyramid House was built in 1977 as a private residence but was later opened for public tours. A 55-foot-tall (17-meter-tall) statue of Ramses II stands outside.

The six-story structure has a moat and contains a replica of King Tut’s tomb.

5-Alarm fire with 2 Specials and a 2-Alarm EMS Box in Prospect Heights, 7-18-18 (more)

This from Steve Redick:

This last Wednesday I attended the major fire in a condo complex that destroyed 3 full buildings and part of a 4th in Prospect Heights. 96 Units were damaged or destroyed leaving many homeless. The fire began in a second floor unit in a very remote section of the complex and penetrated the mansard style roof and cockloft/ attic space. Tremendous efforts were made in the form of multiple trench cuts and opening the mansard in several places as well as a great deal of interior operations. In the end several master streams were also utilized. It has been said this is the largest MABAS response in the area since the Arlington Park Racetrack fire many years ago. Enclosed are a few images from the 4 hours I was there observing. All the images can be seen here on my website.

I am also enclosing an aerial view of the complex.
