Harry, Leyden currently does not have a spare ambulance. Call volume is right around 1500 a year out of one station. The current ambulance will be placed in reserve.

well wayne to be honest no I do not work in the fire police or ems field but one thing I know is that yes vehicles need to be replaced but I believe they do about 1200 calls a year and the current ambo is 5 years old but yet when they had diesels they lasted 10 or more years if the diesels were able to last 10 years why buy a gas ambo the town I live in in franklin pk we have a 08 09 and 2015 and while they need repairs they are still doing just fine they are e series diesels and a chevy 4500 diesel and they do the job and fp call volume is about 4000 calls a year so another words what I am saying is if u are only going to get 5 years from the gas engine but 10 or so from the diesel why not buy the diesel heck fdny new York city has ambulances for 10 years with about 500 000 mi on them then they are replaced now granted that is high but if they can do it why cant il depts. unless u are leaseing equipment then I don’t think it makes much sense to replace equipment that soon it depends on a lot

Harry, serious question, do you understand how apparatus replacement works? And are you a fireman/police officer/paramedic? You don’t replace apparatus when it’s falling apart. You replace it when it still has some value and isn’t costing you more money than it’s worth in maintenance. And that is regardless of call volume. I know nothing about Leyden so I can’t defend them specifically but it seems like every time a post is on here about someone replacing rigs you have a comment about it or how they’re using their rigs.

well congratulations to leyden fpd on the new ambulance even thought there call vol. is lower than some but if there last gas engine e series only lasted 5 years why not buy a f550 diesel then
